Rock and Roll Photo Shoot in LA: Day 3: The launch party

nbp058ostone

Nate picked me from my hotel at 9 am. He was going to pick up his amp in the Valley and he was going to give me a mini tour on they way. We drove through Laurel Canyon and he pointed out a few cool places, then on the way back he took me to Amoeba Records – the largest independent record store. The collection of Vinyl there was incredible!

We had to get back, because the guys had an interview scheduled for noon, then a shoot at two. The interview had to be rescheduled though, because the guys were two hours late. Apparently they had stayed out to late the night before!

They showed up around two, well rested and after a couple hours of shooting, everyone headed over to the studio to get ready for the show.

The show was spectacular! Once they got on stage everything just seemed to gel. You can really tell they love playing live. The guys did two sets and the second one especially rocked. The videographer and I had complete run of the stage, we could go wherever to get the shots we needed. The band didn’t even miss a beat when one of accidently pulled a cable out. Thankfully someone jumped in quick and got it going so no one even noticed.

Afterward the band invited everyone back to a private rooftop pool after party in West Hollywood. There was plenty of grilled steak and chicken, and plenty of whiskey and beer. I had an early flight in the morning and left around 2 am, and the party was still going strong.

What an incredible three days! I loved getting to hang out with the guys and get to know them. It was such a great experience and a dream session. Right now the guys are in the studio recording.

I’m really excited for them, and can’t wait to see them live again!

Rock and Roll Photo Shoot in LA Day 2: The Shoot

nbp010fadeosToday we would shoot the band at a couple of locations, in the afternoon, and close to sunset.

We also had to take time away from the photo shoot, to find an alternative venue. Not only that but how would they get a hold of everyone coming to the show, to let them know that the venue had changed. Stacey checked out SIR Studios to see if by chance the band would bee able to book the place on Saturday night. SIR didn’t have anything on such short notice. Fortunately the owner of Cascade finally got back to her and she was able to smooth things over.

After getting a few shots we went over to the Sunset Grill, and had lunch. Across the street was Mesa Boogie and I thought it’s be cool to see if we could take a few shots on the roof. They said no, so we hit a couple of more locations, then headed over to Nate’s place to get a few shots on the rooftop at sunset. While I was setting up lights, the guys looked over and they could see a barley dressed woman getting photographed, which got them pretty excited.

The rooftop has a killer view, overlooking Hollywood. The view at night is even better.

Afterward, the band headed off to the strip with the videographer and I following and we caught them having a little fun flirting with some girls outside the Body Shoppe. Afterward we headed over to the Rainbow to meet Stacey aka Rock Mamma for a drink.

Rock and Roll Photo Shoot in LA Day 1: Scouting Locations

I flew into LA on a Thursday. We were scheduled to shoot both  Friday and Saturday, and  at the band’s launch party on Saturday night. Nate (lead guitarist) and Stacey  (manager) picked me up around 2 pm. The plan was to scout locations and finish up any last minute details.

We scouted a few locations around West Hollywood, including the garage that Guns and Roses lived in back in the 80s. Then we stopped by Guitar Center on Sunset so Nate could pick up some strings, and I got to check out the Hollywood Rock Walk. There was so much history and memorabilia there- Paul Stanley’s Boots, Eddie Van Halens Guitar, an old Zeppelin set list. It was awesome! You can check it out here.

After a great sushi dinner at Crazy Rockn Sushi, we headed over to Cascade Studios so I could check it out, see the stage and the lights.

What we didn’t know at the time, was the Stacey would get a call from Carlos the next day telling her that the venue owner was not going to let them play there. Her didn’t like how the party was being advertised.

The next two days were crazy. Nate had blown his amp and was hoping it would be done in time for the show, and the band didn’t know if the launch party would even happen.

Tomorrow: Rock and Roll Photo Shoot in LA: Day 2.

Rock and Roll Photo Shoot in LA

I was so excited when Stacey aka Rockmamma asked me to come out to LA for a photo shoot. She’s managing a  new rock band in L.A.  She told me they are “balls out rock and roll” band  with a gritty sound and they love performing live.

I spent three days there with the guys, doing photo shoots, and then photographed their launch party at Cascade Studios in Hollywood. It was a total blast! We photographed in a few cool West Hollywood locations, I hung out with them on the strip, got to photograph them performing, then the weekend ended  with an after show private rooftop pool party.

It was such a cool thing to be a part of. Over the next 3 days, I’ll be posting more images, and notes from a crazy, cool weekend with the band: Carlos, Josh, Nate and Sal.

In the meantime, check out and learn more about the band and the Rock Band Project. The “band” needs a name and they need your help picking one.

They’re looking for input from their fans plus you can earn a trip to LA. Check em out.
